Dear friends of CLAC,

On behalf of the Fair World Project, we would like to congratulate you on the development of the “Latin American Universities for Fair Trade” campaign. We know that in Latin America and the Caribbean the concept of fair trade is not especially developed among consumers, and yet our allies in the region continue to create new and innovative proposals for fair trade.

Importantly, students play a very important role and universities will be critical in the development of fair and solidarity trade, not only in Latin America, but also for South-South trade between countries and regions in the Global South.

For this reason we commend CLAC’s efforts in communicating fair trade’s values and principles and connect those values with the academic world. We will promote the campaign through our networks and allies that work directly in Latin America and the Caribbean and offer for your consideration an online petition on our web page to promote the “Latin American Universities for Fair Trade” campaign.

We are confident that students are important actors in the development of fair trade.  By way of their studies, research and consumer power, and students can transform the marketplace and support small producers develop regional and global fair and solidarity trade.

In Solidarity,

Ryan Zinn

Political Director
