Action Alert – Protect Poultry Workers!
In poultry processing plants, the line speed, that is the rate at which the chickens along an automated belt to be processed by workers, is extremely fast, forcing workers to risk injury and forgo breaks to keep up. In the words of Northwest Arkansas Workers Justice Center, the poultry workers frequently describe, “line speeds so fast they work through pain and incur carpal tunnel syndrome and life-long injuries; wages so low they turn to food banks and work while sick (no earned sick time); and workers afraid to speak out – even to request a bathroom break, to the point they end up urinating on themselves.”
